Introducing: Parent Coaching
Today, we are launching an exciting arm of Parent Wellness Group — Parent Coaching! I am thrilled to be a part of the Parent Wellness Group and look forward to serving this amazing community of parents with tactical advice and training for one of our most important jobs: parenting.
Starting a relationship with a Parent Coach is the first step in helping you to understand why you parent the way you do. A parent coach is here to support you in all that the parenting journey throws at you. We don’t go to school to become a parent like we did for our chosen profession, or train for it like we would a marathon. So WHY do parents have so much internal and external pressure to do it “RIGHT” all the time?
Let’s examine the way we parent through wonder and curiosity rather than shame and worry. There are so many resources out there today with conflicting theories and approaches. A parenting coach will help you redefine the way you connect with your loved ones, reflect on the ways you parent and help you redirect your approach to work effectively when you need it the most.
So, what is a parent coach?
A parent coach is someone who helps you:
navigate the ins and outs of parenting
set goals and priorities
examine your parenting approach, belief systems and generational parenting patterns
gain skills, tools, resources and concrete takeaways
guide you through the unexpected and unanticipated moments
strengthen the relationship you have with your child(ren)
prepare you with confidence and knowledge to tackle the day to day
understand how the systems of support around you work
In our sessions together, we will…
Identify key issues
Discuss your parenting approach and style
Offer connection based supports
Set goals, increase skills and tools
Discuss patterns and strategies
Educate around social, emotional, behavioral and developmental stages
What do I look for in a Parenting Coach?
Have you ever heard the saying “don’t worry alone”?
A parent coach will first and foremost listen. A coach will help you through those times of turmoil, when you feel like you have tried everything and are in an ineffectual rut.
My style of coaching draws from a number of evidence based modalities. From attachment theory, neuroscience and family systems to developmental psychology, self regulation strategies and various gentle and peaceful parenting methods. Together, we will set goals and use strategies that work for you in the moment and that you can apply in the future.
As the field of parent coaches grows, it is important to do your research to make sure you are working with a coach that is the right fit for you and your family.
If you are on the fence about finding support, have exhausted all other resources or are proactively looking to engage in a skills based parenting approach, finding a coach might be just the thing to help you take that next step.
Whatever your reason may be, we are here to help not only in supporting you, but reducing the burden you may feel in trying to do it “all”, all the time.
What are some signs that parent coaching might be right for you?
When it comes to parenting, we are so often inundated with resources and books and opinions from experts, social media, and the internet. But, sometimes, this influx of information overload can be a deterrence to your own goal and needs.
If you have tried various methods and still find you’re fighting an uphill battle or if you’d like to find a more custom approach to your specific personality as a parent to a specific kind of child, parent coaching could be a great tool for you.
Oftentimes, having an objective third party come in and see your challenges and triumphs from a new angle can make all the difference. I work with tried and true, science-backed methods while also tailoring my approach to your needs and I would love the chance to work with you.
Reach out today for a consult and and I look forward to working with you as part of the Parent Wellness Group team!
